Aspirations of schools and parents have claimed another tender life, this time the accident happened in a reputed school in Assam. The school shot to fame with repeated stellar performances in the High School Leaving Certificate exams in the last couple of years. So it can be assumed that School has lot to do with encouraging young minds achieve success at any cost and not to take failure to their stride in anyways!
The incident in Sophy Mercy School in Assam's Sivasagar district has opened a Pandora's box of woes for the school administration. The school admin allegedly sends reports cards every day or week(!). The girl studying in fifth standard was caught with a letter which was digged out from her school bag and she was allegedly slapped and humiliated to the point of driving her to take such a drastic step like ending her life. Many parents confide that corporal punishment, humiliation, ban on speaking Assamese while at school, pressurizing kids with everyday progress report etc. are some of the common accusations against the school administration.
It's a foregone conclusion that many of the schools in present days are playing with parental aspirations of better education, fluent English and disciplined life for kids. Schools are now representative of God on earth and can decide anything. And parents are considered some dumb-heads only because they decided to put their kids into schools and trusting a school. This has been happening in everywhere although parents may shy away from admitting it. But accidents are happening and claiming innocent lives instead of some punishment for the culprits.
