Which districts in Assam will continue AFSPA

Amist huge speculation in connection with AFSPA, the DGP Assam Sh GP Singh IPS declared on Sunday that AFSPA will continue in only four districts of Assam. The draconian AFSP Act was first imposed in Assam in November 1990. The same year had seen Operation Bajrang which was continued from November 28 to April 1991 in Assam when Army and State Police got down heavily on the banned outfit called United Liberation front of Assam. Since then, gallons of water reached the Bay of Bengal through the mighty Brahmaputra. A period full of sighs and sorrows, the entire decade was marked with strugling economy, insurgency and unattended grievances. The banned outfit was partially neutralized and even if it took time to be completely eradicated, it's influence and support from mass slowly got faded away. The existence of the outfit was time to time announced by one of to leaders during Election time, or during some protest programmes which are able to garner recognition.

As time has progressed, the question of development and economic progress have started gathering mass concern the banned outfit almost faded into oblivion. However, a fraction of ULFA leaders, placed themselves outside the country and in safe locations and were able to keep themselves little relevant by causing some harm to some business community members, demanding money and throwing grenade at some locations once in a while. Although, since its implement in Assam in 1990, it has been extended every six months after getting reviewed by the state government. In a major leap forward, the state Ministry of Home Assam, has removed AFSPA in April 2022, from all areas of the northeastern state except nine districts and one sub-division in one district. These nine districts including one sub division. There were Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Golaghat, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Dima HAsao and Lakhipur Sub division. Now, accelerating the process of remoavl, on the very day of Assam Police Day on October 1st 2023, in the presence of Tapan Kr Deka, Director Intelligence Bureau, the DGP Assam declared that AFSPA will now remain imposed in only four districts of Assam, i.e, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Tinsukia and Charaideo of Assam. This is a very auspicious sign for the state of Assam which is already under pressure in developmental front. State govt requires to put up lot more effective steps to push the growth of economy and providing employment. Lets see how much of positive outcome the state gains after removal of the AFSPA.
