For all those lovers of 'books and fairs' out there, here is an extremely good piece of news. North-East Book Fair 2011 starts from today i.e., 14 December 2011. It is a forgone comclusion that Book fairs are not for book lovers only. Book fairs have become a place to hang out during these beautiful winter days for students, office-goers and housewives and of course lovers as well! But that cannot dampen the spirit of real book lovers.
This time the venue will not be the Judges Field. Instead the venue of North East Book Fair Assam 2011 will be the Sports ground of Assam Engineering Institute at Chandmari Guwahati. Amar Asom editor former Assam Sahitya Sabha President Homen Borgohain will innaugurate this grand occasion of festival of books. The Souvenir of Book fair Granthan will be uncovered by Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma.
Details of North East Book fair stalls
The North East Book Fair 2011 will be dedicated to the Sangeet Surjyo Dr Bhupen Hazarika whose sad demise is yet to sink in. So the second day of North East Book fair will also be dedicated to Dr Bhupen Hazarika, and the entire day will be celebrated with seminer, competition etc on the works of the maestro. The Main pandal of Guwahati book fair 2011 will be dedicated to the noted literataur of Assam Jnanpith Award winner Dr Mamoni Raisom Goswami.
There will be 258 book stalls in 2011 North East Book fair. A total number of 90 book publication houses including book stalls will participate in the North East Book Fair. 21 Book houses from Delhi, 25 from Kolkata, and also at least one stals from many state caputals in India will participate.
The book fair entry fee is limited to Rs five, but students will get free entry. This is all to boost sales of books which is expected to rise to five crores this time. With almost thousand new books published from Assam lined up to get released during the Book Fair it is all but possible.
So, this is time to break your piggy banks folks!!
